Our pupils are 5-16 years of age
|
The school is divided into six classes which are then sub-divided into year groups according to need. The six classes are: Stage 1 (5-7 years) Stage 2 (7-9 years) Stage 3 (9-11 years) Stage 4 (11-12 years) Stage 5 (12-14 years). Stage 6 (14-16 years) The classes are composite multi-level classes covering more than one year group. As the school recruits more pupils the number of classes expands to narrow the age ranges.
In the Primary Classes, the teaching emphasis is on learning to read, write and think in English and Danish and the learning of social and personal skills. As of June 2006 our primary years classes are following the Cambridge Primary Years Programme in Maths, Science and English. Other subjects use the British and Danish Curriculums for guidelines, and we develop school schemes in different subjects. Often a topic based approach is used and subjects integrated around a theme.
In the Senior Classes, we emphasise academic skills within the traditional disciplinary areas, and the practical application of these skills. Ultimately, our goal is to prepare pupils for International GCSEs (validated by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) ) at 16 years of age.
Details of programmes of study for this year can be found on ForældreIntra.
In all classes, projects are an important vehicle of learning. Projects are inquiry-based, data-driven pieces of work undertaken often from an interdisciplinary perspective. Children are given the opportunity to ask complex questions within a given organising theme to which they seek their own answers with teacher guidance. In short, they are taught to gather information, process it discriminatingly, and present answers, i.e., they are taught to think logically and critically.
